Common questions
Where do the numbers come from?
LME 3M and our FOB Shanghai composite drive the base aluminum price. Freightos FBX drives ocean freight (with deterministic regional multipliers for lanes not in the FBX index). Duties for US/EU/VN/BR come from the 2026-09-02 official-schedule catalog (USITC, EUR-Lex, Federal Register, MDIC). Missing official rates (Vietnam MFN, Brazil TEC, Vietnam 2531 company AD table, US 301 per-HS mapping) stay pending — they are not filled with 0 or with another market's number. MX/ID still read the live tariffs table. VAT/PPN/IVA from each country's tax authority where we have a stored row.
Does the calculator include anti-dumping duties?
Yes, when an official residual rate is on file. US extrusions use the China-wide AD cash deposit 86.01% (Federal Register 2026-16753) plus CVD all-others 7.37% and Section 232 50% where the heading is in scope. EU extrusions use the 32.1% all-other residual from regulation 2021/546. Vietnam's 2531 company table was not retrieved this round, so VN AD is shown as pending — not 0 and not a republished 2.85–35.58% range. Brazil has no AD on Chinese extrusions on the official in-force list; Brazil MFN/TEC is also pending.
Why is freight to Vietnam estimated rather than direct?
The Freightos Baltic Index publishes 12 main lanes; intra-Asia, AE, and SAEC lanes are derived as deterministic multipliers of the closest published lane (CN→US WC for VN/TH/PH/ID, CN→N Europe for AE/BR). The multiplier and rationale are shown on every estimated row.
How do I get DDP-vs-DAP delta?
Pick DDP — the calculator layers VAT (8% VN, 17% BR, 16% MX, 11% ID, 7% TH, 12% PH, 5% AE, 0% US) on top of CIF + duty + AD + CVD. Switch to DAP to see what the importer-of-record pays separately.
