Common questions
Where do the numbers come from?
LME 3M and our FOB Shanghai composite drive the base aluminum price. Freightos FBX drives ocean freight (with deterministic regional multipliers for lanes not in the FBX index). Tariffs come from the live tariffs table sourced from USITC, Vietnamese MOIT Circular 1149/2024, MERCOSUL gazette, Mexican SAT, and Indonesian DJBC. VAT/PPN/IVA from each country's tax authority.
Does the calculator include anti-dumping duties?
Yes. When an active AD order exists for the chosen destination + HS, the binding rate is auto-applied (e.g. Vietnam MOIT Decision 1149/QD-BCT 35.58% on Chinese extrusions, US 86.01% AD on aluminum extrusions, MX 15.73%, BR 21.20% under MERCOSUL). The calculator picks the highest AD row for the HS family.
Why is freight to Vietnam estimated rather than direct?
The Freightos Baltic Index publishes 12 main lanes; intra-Asia, AE, and SAEC lanes are derived as deterministic multipliers of the closest published lane (CN→US WC for VN/TH/PH/ID, CN→N Europe for AE/BR). The multiplier and rationale are shown on every estimated row.
How do I get DDP-vs-DAP delta?
Pick DDP — the calculator layers VAT (8% VN, 17% BR, 16% MX, 11% ID, 7% TH, 12% PH, 5% AE, 0% US) on top of CIF + duty + AD + CVD. Switch to DAP to see what the importer-of-record pays separately.
